HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS
Blokart sailing is now an international sport. Our goal is to hold the Panama High School Blokart Sailing Championships in the future. To do this we will need to build a group of interested and enthusiastic sailors.
Blokarts allow students to experiment with wind and sailing dynamics. Begin by mastering the art of maneuvering around a simple course that includes tacking, jibing and running with the wind.
Once the basics have been covered progress to competitive sailing and hone your skills all the way to international standard. As well as sailing you'll be taught to rig, de-rig and safety check the land yachts and along the way you'll pick up the blokart vocabulary.
We can work with groups of up to 10 students at a time. Each session is 1 hour and each participant will get up to 3 races of approximately 15 minutes. Times can be negotiable but must be pre-booked for a minimum of 4 sessions.
The activity will be managed by Panama Landsailing staff with a ratio of 2 staff members for 6 sailing students on the track. No parental or teacher input is required but any assistance will be welcome. Risk Assessment Management Systems are in place.
All safety gear is provided. Students should bring a water bottle, and wear comfortable, sun-smart clothes and covered shoes or sneakers.
Cost: currently $80 for 4 sessions. We are seeking corporate sponsorship to enable us to develop this sport at minimal or no cost to students, (see our Community page for further info on sponsorship).
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN MAKING THIS YOUR EXTRA-CURRICULAR SPORT, EMAIL US DIRECTLY OR TALK TO A PARENT OR TEACHER AND ASK THEM TO CONTACT US.
Once a month we will be offering a Sailing School for up to 6 people. It will run for 4 hours and include sailing theory, instruction in the international blokart sailing rules for international competitions as well as practical sailing tuition including appropriate sail selection and kart rigging and de-rigging.
The course will be run by Andrew Sands, who is currently ranked 5th in the world. There is a minimum enrolment of 3 people required so gather your friends together for a fun afternoon of sailing and racing.
The cost of the course is $180 and you receive a certificate upon completion.
Refreshments and snacks are included. All safety equipment and blokarts are provided. You only need to wear comfortable, sun-smart clothes and closed in shoes.
